Air India is India’s National airline and it’s owned by Air India Limited, a government-owned enterprise. In 1932, the Air India was founded by the father of Civil Aviation JR.D Tata. He himself flew its first engine but after World War II it’s become the public limited company and named changed to Air India. With an 18.6% of market share, Air India is the largest international carrier out of India. Headquarter of the airline is in Delhi. In 2013, it was moved from Mumbai to Delhi. On 11 July 2014 the airline became the 27th member of Star Alliance.  Air India operates Airbus and Boeing Aircraft which fleet to 90 domestic and international destinations. In terms of passenger carried after Indigo, Jet Airways, Air India is the 3rd largest with the market share of 13.5% as of July 2017. It also faces an economic loss in 2012.

The government already sanctioned Rs. 30,000 crore but still, it’s not seemed like that the financial condition of airlines will improve soon. And according to the official in Delhi, a few days back Mr. Narendra Modi gives the final go-ahead for the government to sell off Air India.

Indigo airlines show the interest to buy the stake in Air India but the government expects more airlines to approach to buy the stake in Air India.
